A member of the Sullivan South High School football community has tested positive for COVID-19. Sullivan County School officials confirmed the positive test on Saturday and said that the entire team and coaching staff will quarantine for 14 days since the time of last contact, which was Tuesday, August 4. Practices are scheduled to resume on Wednesday, August 19. The Rebels first game was scheduled for Friday, August 21 at Daniel Boone, but that game has been cancelled, South is now scheduled to start the season on August 28 at Cherokee. Two other schools in Sullivan County have had positive tests shut down practice for their football and volleyball teams. Sullivan North had a member of their football community test positive, which caused the Raiders to shut down practice until August 17. They still plan to get their season started on August 21 at home against Sullivan Central. The Sullivan East volleyball team had practice suspended until August 12 after a member of their community tested positive on July 29.
