Medical emergency leads to man being hit by SUV in Appalachia Monday morning. The Wise County Sheriff's Office reports that the incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. on West Main Street in Appalachia. An investigation found that a UTV driver saw a BMW SUV stopped in the westbound lane facing eastbound. The driver then got out to check on the driver and the BMW then accelerated and struck him. The UTV was pushed into a town-owned truck. The UTV driver suffered serious injuries and was flown to a trauma center after Appalachia Fire Department personnel administered life-saving procedures on him. It is believed that the driver of the BMW suffered a medical emergency, and aid was provided as well as to the other driver involved. The SUV driver has been charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain control. The incident remains under investigation.
