Moore, of Kite, were sentenced in court on Thursday. King was sentenced to 262 months and Moore was sentenced to 108 months in federal prison for conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. King admitted that from August 2018 to November 2018, she conspired with Moore and Gregory Phillip Chaffins to distribute 500 grams or more of meth. King made an arrangement to obtain more than 500 grams of meth in Atlanta and distributed it to other dealers and users, including Moore and Chaffins, who sold it in Floyd, Knott, and Letcher counties. Gregory Chaffins was sentenced to 200 months in federal prison on Tuesday. ![]() Federal agents raided three pharmacies in Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday. Drug enforcement administration officials executed search warrants at Plaza Drug of London, Parkway Pharmacy in Barbourville, and Stephanie's Down Home Pharmacy in Corbin. Barbourville City Councilman Calvin Manis, who is the owner of Parkway Pharmacy, was arrested on drug charges. ![]() A man was injured in an early morning shooting in Greeneville, Tennessee. The Greeneville Police Department reports that officers were called to the 300 block of Locust Street in reference to an aggravated assault early Friday morning. Officers found Michael Reese, of Greeneville, who said he had been shot, but he did not know who shot him. Reece told officers that he had came to the home to see his mother. He was taken to the Johnson City Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The GPD reports that no other credible statements were given and that the investigation is ongoing. ![]() A Coeburn man was sentenced to more than ten years in prison on Wednesday. 20-year-old Tyler Zachary Hyatt was convicted for the January beating of his girlfriend and was sentenced on Wednesday to 20 years in prison with nine years and six months suspended after he pleaded no contest in March to aggravated malicious wounding. Hyatt smacked and punched his girlfriend repeatedly before slamming her head against the floor at least two times, resulting in life-threatening injuries. The victim is still recovering from her injuries. The incident stemmed from Hyatt demanding to know where his drugs were. Hyatt will be transferred to the state Department of Corrections and will also face ten years probation when he is released. ![]() Sloopy's Diner in Kingsport closes after an employee tested positive for COVID-19. Sloopy's reports that the employee had last worked on Friday, June 19. The restaurant closed early on Wednesday after finding about the employee's positive test. All employees were tested for COVID-19 on Thursday, and Sloopy's will remain closed while awaiting the test results. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that there is no evidence to suggest that handling food or consuming food is associated with COVID-19. Laurel County, Kentucky Sheriff's Office is looking for burglary suspects. The LCSO is investigating the burglary that happened off Old Richmond Road. Deputies report that at around 5 a.m. on June 14, three people tired to break into a home. If anyone can identify the people in the photos or know anything about the crime, they are asked to contact the LCSO at 606-864-6600.
![]() A former Virginia state senator is considering a run for governor in 2021. Bill Carrico, a Marion native, announced in 2019 that he would not run for reelection in the Virginia State Senate when he endorsed then Delegate Todd Pillion. On Thursday, Carrico said that he is trying to be careful to make sure he understands all of the rules and process before any official decision is made about running for governor. During his time as state senator, he represented the city of Bristol and Lee, Scott, Washington, and Grayson counties, as well as parts of Smyth, Wise, and Wythe counties. Carrico is also a retired Virginia State Trooper. ![]() According to the U.S. Department of Labor, there were 47,227 new unemployment claims filed in Tennessee and Virginia last week. There were 26,072 claims filed in Virginia during the week ending on June 20, 1,114 fewer claims than the week prior. There were 21,155 new claims filed in Tennessee, which was an increase of 1,230 claims from the week before. According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, last week was the first increase in new unemployment claims in the state since the week of April 4. Since March 15 there have been 643,799 unemployment claims filed in Tennessee.
