New law in Virginia will crack down on 'Farm Use' tags. A new Virginia law will require farmers to purchase their 'farm use' plates at the Department of Vehicles. Farmers in the past have been able to buy their tags at a store or insurance provider to indicate a vehicle designated for agriculture purposes. The new law is considered a protection for farmers. The DMV issued farm-use plate is significantly cheaper than buying standard plates and does not have to be renewed. The new law goes into effect July 1, 2023.
