The Virginia Department of Health's Monday morning update has the state's number of confirmed cases at 2,878. The VDH says that 54 people have died from the virus, 497 people have been hospitalized, and 24,521 people have been tested. There are now 15 cases in Southwest Virginia with 5 cases in Washington County, 3 cases in Tazewell County, 2 cases each in Lee and Smyth County, and 1 case each in Russell and Wise County and the City of Bristol. After the VDH's Monday report, the Mountain Mission School in Grundy announced that a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. School president Chris Mitchell was alerted Saturday evening to the positive test and he says that the employee is already in isolation and is off-campus. The school has been in communication with the VDH and the department says that they believe the children and staff are safe to remain on campus. The staff member is the first case in Buchanan County, but it is not reflected in the VDH's Monday report.
