![]() A Wise County "clean coal" plant has been issued a third environmental violation. The Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center opened eight years ago and was championed as an example of clean coal, but now Dominion Energy has amassed more than $150,000 in penalties for three environmental violations at the plant. The plant was cited just a few months after opening by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality for exceeding emissions requirements. They were then cited for another violation for failure to test fuels for mercury and sulfur among other chemicals. The third violation was this past October for having too big of a fuel tank. Plant representatives say that the violations are because of their goal of being a "clean coal" facility. Comments are closed.
